Complete List Of The Foods That Comprise The Protein Group

Blog Article

The protein food group is made of all foods that are high in protein. Usually this mean about 10 grams or more of protein in one serving.

Most protein foods are purchased in their natural state like meat, seafood, eggs, nuts, seeds and beans.
Other protein foods are processed like many soy based foods and pre-packaged luncheon meats.
You can also find already cooked protein foods in the freezer section or canned or jarred on shelves depending on the protein food.are found in the refrigerated section of the supermarket.

For example, beans can be already cooked and packaged in cans. While nuts can be roasted and found in cans or jars.
Some of the already cooked proteins or prepackaged proteins can be high in sodium (salt) and/or fat. So it is always a good idea to compare food labels to find proteins that are lower in fat content and sodium.

The USDA My Plate reminds us to vary our proteins by eating other protein foods that are not meat and choose lean proteins lower in fat.

See a list of lean cuts of meat.
